The “Can Do Kids Learn About Environmental Health Sciences

Friday, May 24th, 2013

It was just about the end of the school year; tests were over, books were packed and the “Can Do” kids were restless. They were anxious start summer vacation.

kidsTeacher Pat was having a hard time finding things to keep the “Can Do” kids interested. She announced, “Everyone go to the computers in the back of the room and let’s explore some environmental health sciences.”

” Huh,” said Bobby, “what’s that?” Teacher Pat smiled and said, “Just go to http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/science/index.htm and you can see for yourself!”

“Wow!” yelled Annie,” this site has games, and stories and activities about our environment. It is really cool.”

The rest of the class session passed so quickly as the “Can Do” kids explored a new, interesting site sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.

Boys and girls, be  Can Do” kids and discover for yourselves all the interesting things there are to learn and do on http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/science/index.htm

Delmar’s First Christmas

Monday, March 18th, 2013

Coach Campbell kept his promise; he came to show and tell and told the “Can Do” Kids about Delmar’s First Christmas.

Here is what Coach had to say:

Christmas

First, we took Delmar to the plaza, to help us pick out the perfect Christmas tree. He has a very good sniffer, so he was able to let us know which tree was the freshest.

Once we had the Christmas tree, we went home and decorated it with lights and ornaments. We had to make sure that the ornaments were not hung too low, or they might get knocked off by Delmar’s tail. Puppies wag their tails all the time, and we didn’t want him breaking anything. Also, no tinsel! Puppies love to eat it, and it is not good for them.

Christmas

Then, once the Christmas tree was just right, it was time for Delmar to put on his special Christmas sweater and have his picture taken. Normally, he loves having his picture taken, but I am not so sure he was excited about wearing the sweater.

Christmas

Finally, after all that work, Delmar had to take a nap. Ever wonder what a dog dreams about? I know I do, and it was a few days later I had an idea as to what he was dreaming about on this special day of Christmas tree getting.

Turns out, Delmar picked the tastiest tree!! Look at what he did one morning when left alone with the Christmas tree.

Christmas

I guess Delmar wanted to help “trim the tree” by trimming off a few of the bottom branches.

Delmar was not left alone with the Christmas tree again.

Note: Delmar’s First Christmas was written by Ned Campbell, a teacher and coach in Brooklyn, NY.

The First Day Back to School After the Holidays

Thursday, January 3rd, 2013

The first day back to school after the holiday was cold and rainy. The “Can Dos” were having a hard time concentrating on school work.

Luckily, Miss Pat knew the “Can Dos”needed some help getting back in the school grove. So, she made two computer games to ease them back into their computer lessons.

She made two matching games about the toys the children got.

Why don’t you play along with the “Can Dos”? Go to the Club House on “Can Do” Street, click on it, then click on games. Look for the games called Show and Tell, click on them and play!

Bobby’s Getting His Brain Ready for School

Saturday, September 1st, 2012

brainBobby told Grandpa John that his brain didn’t feel ready to go back to school.

Grandpa John smiled and said, “I have just what you need to get your brain ready for school.”  With that he got up and left the room. When he came back, he had a book of word searches. He gave the book to Bobby, saying, “Doing a few of these word searches ought to get your brain up to speed.”

Here is one of the word searches that Bobby did to get his brain up to school speed. Let’s see how you do.

Is your brain up to school speed? Check it out.

Just print out this page and find the words listed on the left in the word puzzle on the right.

Those Pesky Punctuation Marks!

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

Miss Pat decided to make a matching game using punctuation marks after teaching punctuation for the past few weeks.

Most of the class knew the names of at least two of the marks, but were still having trouble with the names of the other punctuation marks.

Why don’t you go to the “Can Do” club house, choose games, choose punctuation game and see how you do matching the names of the punctuation marks to the marks?
