What Can I Make With…

Monday, May 25th, 2015

makeOn the bus ride home from a class trip to a working farm and farmer’s market, Miss Pat challenged the “Can Do”Kids with a game of what can I make with what I saw at the farmer’s market.

Miss Pat said, “Okay, who is going to go first?

Bobby raised his hand and said, “I saw apples and  I can make applesauce with apples.”

Kathy went next saying she saw peaches and she can make a peach pie with her mom’s help.

Hector shared that he saw cherries and he could make an ice cream sundae with a cherry on top.

Eulyn saw celery and she knows she can make a tuna salad with cut up celery in it.

Willie saw tomatoes and he can make a salad with them.

Now it is your turn. Name one thing you make with the following things that the “Can Do” Kids saw at the farmer’s market?

eggs                         milk

butter                    cheese

strawberries       blueberries

potatoes               corn

It’s time for a safety smarts check!

Ask an adult to hear your answers and tell you if you have safety smarts.

Where is the State of ______ and What’s the Capital?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2015

Miss Pat was really disappointed to see how poorly a number of the “Can Do kids”  did on the US map quiz. Most didn’t know where over half the states were on the map, and even less could name the capital of each state.

Miss Pat announced, “It is time to spend some time, each day, on the computer playing the US Jigsaw Game to learn where each state is and what city is its capital.”

At first, the class wasn’t too keen on the idea, but once they got started with the jigsaw puzzle, they liked it. Each day, Miss Pat would have a pop quiz following their using the jigsaw game and she and the “Can Dos” were pleased to see how many states they were getting to know.

Why not see how you can do finding each state in the USA.

Just go to the “Can Do” Street club house, choose the balloon that say More Games, then choose USA Jigsaw.

Good luck finding each state and its capital!

The Steps to Good Personal Hygiene

Thursday, April 30th, 2015

At the last parent-teacher meeting some of the parents asked Miss Pat if there was a computer game that could help their children practice the steps of good personal hygiene.

It seems that some of the “Can Dos” were having trouble with the steps for wash their hands and keeping themselves clean.

Miss Pat decided to make up a game, two of them to be exact.

The first game reminded the “Can Dos” of the correct steps to hand washing. The second game Miss Pat made reminded the “Can Dos” of the steps to washing and grooming.

Well, at first the “Can Dos” couldn’t see the need for the games as they all thought they knew the steps of hand washing a personal grooming. Wow, were they surprised when they didn’t do so well in the two games.

Let’s see how well you do with the “Steps” games.

Just go to the “Can Do” Club House, go to games and choose Steps.

Food is Fuel

Friday, April 24th, 2015

Grandma Hattie describes food as fuel that our bodies run on.

She is always telling her grandchildren and their friends how important it is to eat good food, not junk food if they want to grow strong and healthy, not put on too much weight, and have the energy to learn, exercise and play.

Grandma Hattie always has lots of food in her refrigerator.

Food

The other day she challenged Willie and his friends to pick out foods that are good to eat at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Why not see what food you can pick out for each meal? Don’t forget a snack food! Have a grown up check your choices.
