Just for Fun

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2016

funMiss Pat wanted to give the “Can Dos” something to do that was fun.

She had been working the class hard in preparation for exams in a few weeks.

She had an idea…why not a computer game that was pure fun?

So that is what Miss Pat did. She put up a new game called Drive Thru 101.

The “Can Do’ kids love it! They get to play it after they do well with their lessons as a reward.

Just for fun…go to the “Can Do” Club House and choose more games. Then choose Drive Thru 101.

Have fun!

The Can Do Kids Fund Raise

Wednesday, December 9th, 2015

Miss Sue called a meeting of the “Can Do’ Kids Club at the Community Center to talk about ways to fund raise to help the kids in a town nearby that was hit by a flood.

fund raiseThe “Can Do” Kids knew about the flood from their parents  and their teacher, Miss Pat. They all agreed that everyone needed to help that could help because the kids who experienced the flood lost a lot of their belongings. Not only do they need clothes and food and housing, they need school supplies and books.

It was going to be a sad holiday season for many of the kids.

fund raiseMiss Sue opened the discussion by asking the kids to come up with ways they thought they could fund raise.

Kathy suggested that the Can Do Cooking Club bake and package holiday cookies with the help of the Seniors Club. They would sell the baked goods to everyone who frequented the events at the center, especially when parents came to watch their kids games. Miss Sue said, “That’s a great idea, Kathy.”

Let’s have a show of hands to see if everyone agrees that this is a good way to fund raise.” It was unanimous!

“OK, how else can we fund raise,” asked Miss Sue. Hector raised his hand, and when called on said,”We could have a games day here at the center and all the money we take in from kids and parents will go to help kids who lost their stuff in the flood.”

Miss Sue beamed at the group and said, “You are very generous to want to help the children in our neighboring town. I am very proud of you.”

A Fun 4th!

Monday, July 6th, 2015

The sun shone; it wasn’t too hot. It was a perfect day to celebrate the 4th and have fun at the “Can Do” Street Community Center.

The 4th of July celebrations started with foot races and games. Jay took first place in his age group for the track race. Willie and Bobby won the three-legged race. Kathy and Eulyn won the sack race. They all received  $25 gift certificates to the “Can Do” Street sports store.

4thThe “Can Do Kids Cooking Club, with the help of the seniors club, turned out a beautiful red, white and blue sheet cake. They also made blueberry smoothies that were the hit drink of the day and in keeping with the colors for the 4th of July.

The play about the signing of the Declaration of Independence was a huge success!

Everyone gave the “Can Do” Kids Chorus a big round of applause for their singing of: God Bless America, My Country Tis of Thee, America The Beautiful and closing with Happy Birthday!

Grandma Hattie won a prize for her strawberry pie at the barbeque supper. Grandma Maureen won for her potato salad and Grandpa Dooley won for the best spareribs.

After it got dark, fireworks professionals put on a beautiful show.

By 10 PM, it was time to head home. The “Can Dos” were tired but happy. It had been a wonderful 4th of July!

Where is the State of ______ and What’s the Capital?

Tuesday, May 12th, 2015

Miss Pat was really disappointed to see how poorly a number of the “Can Do kids”  did on the US map quiz. Most didn’t know where over half the states were on the map, and even less could name the capital of each state.

Miss Pat announced, “It is time to spend some time, each day, on the computer playing the US Jigsaw Game to learn where each state is and what city is its capital.”

At first, the class wasn’t too keen on the idea, but once they got started with the jigsaw puzzle, they liked it. Each day, Miss Pat would have a pop quiz following their using the jigsaw game and she and the “Can Dos” were pleased to see how many states they were getting to know.

Why not see how you can do finding each state in the USA.

Just go to the “Can Do” Street club house, choose the balloon that say More Games, then choose USA Jigsaw.

Good luck finding each state and its capital!
