Nellie Needs Help with School Manners

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

Nellie likes to cut in line when her class is lining up to go somewhere.

Why are Nellie’s classmates angry with her when she cuts in line?

What’s wrong with cutting in line?

Do you ever cut in line?

What do you say or do if someone cuts in line ahead of you?

Is asking  someone to save your place in line the same as cutting in line?

Is there ever a time when it might be okay to cut in line?

Meet a “Can Do” Meet Kathy

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

Kathy is the best at jumping rope of all the kids on “Can Do” Street. Kathy knows it is great exercise and a lot of  fun. She is also  a member of the “Can Do” kids Cooking Club. She never misses a meeting.

Kathy has her problems though…she is not a good eater. She doesn’t like to eat breakfast and sometimes fall asleep in class, during the morning, because without breakfast she doesn’t have the energy to stay awake and pay attention. Nurse Diane, when she visited Kathy’s class,  spoke to her about what she could eat  in the morning, before school, that would give her the energy to stay awake and learn.

Be sure to check out the program called ” Food is Fuel”and find out what Kathy and her classmates learned about the foods you need to eat to help your body grow and to have the energy, not only to learn, but to have fun doing the things you like to do.

Safety Smart

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Jay loves to swim. He lives near a beach but sometimes there is no lifeguard.

Is it okay for Jay to swim when there is no lifeguard?

Bobby lives five houses away from the community center and usually walks home with his friend Jay, who lives next door to him. Sometimes, when Jay isn’t at the community center, Bobby walks home by himself and cuts through the alley, behind the houses instead of taking the sidewalk that leads from the community center to his house.

Do you think it is a good idea for Bobby to walk home alone? Do you think Bobby should ever use the alley, even when Jay is with him? What would you do if you were Bobby?

When you write be sure to sign your email with your “Can Do” ID and not your name.
