The “Can Do” Street Chefs Club Makes No-Cook Snacks

In the March meeting of the “Can Do” Street Chefs Club, Kathy, Yundi, Hector and Nellie made two no-cook, no-bake snacks.

They had lots of takers…many of the  after school program kids stopped by to sample the Chefs Club no-cook snacks.

Here are the recipes the Chefs Club made. Why not try them with a family member and surprise everyone at your house!

Almost S’mores

Ingredients:

Box of graham crackers

Jar of marshmallow creme

Container of chocolate cream cheese

Directions:

Allow two crackers for each S’more

Spread chocolate cream cheese on one cracker

Spread marshmallow creme on the other cracker

Put the crackers together

Peanut Butter Pinwheels

Ingredients:

A jar of creamy peanut butter

A bag of granola with raisins or dried cranberries

A package of flour tortillas

Directions:

Spread each tortilla generously with peanut butter

Sprinkle granola evenly over peanut butter

Roll the tortillas

Cut each tortilla into even slices (about 1 inch) and arrange on a plate to look like individual pinwheels

A Rainbow on my Plate

plateThe “Can Do” Kids Chefs Club hosted a camp session on making healthy food choices called …A Rainbow on my Plate.

The guest speaker was Miss Mary, a dietitian, who works for the “Can Do” Street Elementary and High Schools during the school year. Miss Mary’s job is to plan healthy meals for the children attending the schools. She makes sure that the children get foods that will help them feel good so they do well in school and after school activities, such as sports.

“Good Morning “Can Dos,” said Miss Mary. “Let’s play a game I call Rainbow on my Plate.”  With that, Miss Mary handed each “Can Do” a paper plate and said,”We are going to fill the plate with fruits and vegetables that are the colors of the rainbow.” Miss Mary had a box of paper vegetable and fruits and as each “Can Do”answered her questions, with the right answers, she added a picture of the fruit or vegetable to the plate.
