The Dept of Health and Human Services(HHS) wants every adult to speak with his or her physician and review the dates of their inoculations. Many adults fail to get booster shots. Also, their are now several new shots to prevent serious illnesses.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<h2><em><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><strong> HHS recommends that the next time you get a checkup, talk with the doctor or nurse about getting these important shots.<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a>Get a flu shot every year<\/a>. The seasonal flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and others from the flu.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Get a Td booster shot every 10 years to protect against tetanus (\u201cTET-nes\u201d) and diphtheria (\u201cdif-THEER-ee-ah\u201d).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are under age 65 and haven\u2019t received it yet, get the Tdap shot instead of your next Td booster. Tdap protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough (pertussis).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><em><strong>Be sure to remind grandparents about keeping up with their shots:<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are age 60 or older, you may need a shot to prevent shingles. Shingles causes a rash and can lead to pain that lasts for months or years. There is a new vaccine for preventing shingles. It is administered in two separate injections, given a few months apart.Your local pharmacy carries it, and the pharmacist can administer the shingles vaccine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are age 65 or older, <a>get a pneumonia shot<\/a>. This shot is sometimes called\u00a0PPSV.
