Partial thawing and refreezing may affect the quality of some food, but the food will be safe to eat.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>If you keep an appliance thermometer in your freezer, it\u2019s easy to tell whether food is safe. When the power comes back on, check the thermometer. If it reads 40 \u00b0F or below, the food is safe and can be refrozen.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\">\u00a0<em><strong>Refrigerated Food<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>\u00a0 Keep the fridge closed. It will keep food cold for about 4 hours. Throw away any foods that have been above 40 degrees for longer than two hours.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><em><strong>Words of Caution:<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><em><strong>Never taste food to determine its safety!<\/strong> You can\u2019t rely on appearance or odor to determine whether food is safe.<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>Always discard any items in the refrigerator and freezer that have come into contact with raw meat juices.<\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>Remember, when in doubt, throw it out!<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Another caution-be careful when grocery shopping after a power outage.
