Although household cleaners are a frequent cause of poisoning, kids can also be fatally poisoned by iron, alcohol and carbon monoxide. Prevention is key to safety.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><em><strong>Because no prevention method is 100 percent effective, learn how to keep poison exposure from turning into tragedy for you and your family.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<table cellspacing=\"20\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><em><strong>Prevention in the kitchen:<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep cleaning products in their original containers. Never put a potentially poisonous product in something other than its original container (like a\u00a0plastic soda bottle), where it could be mistaken for something harmless.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Know which household products are poisonous.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Lock up poisons out of children\u2019s sight and reach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><em><strong>Prevention in the bathroom: <\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Always read labels and follow the exact directions<strong>.<\/strong> Give children medicines based on their weights and ages, and only use the dispensers that come packaged with children\u2019s medications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Never refer to medicine or vitamins as \u201ccandy.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Do not have children help you take medication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366;\"><em><strong>Prevention around the house: <\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be aware of medications that may be in your handbag.
